THE STORY BEHIND THE ODJJ LOGO
The Our Dementia Journey Journal (ODJJ) logo was designed to reflect the values of connection, care, and cultural inclusivity that are central to the journal itself. Each element of the design was chosen with intention, symbolizing the shared journey of individuals living with dementia, their families, caregivers, and care providers.
At the heart of the logo is a circular shape, representing the circle of care—a dynamic, evolving relationship built on communication, respect, and mutual support. The gentle movement of the lines suggests fluidity and change, reflecting how dementia care is a journey that shifts over time and requires ongoing adaptation and collaboration.
The color palette was inspired by nature and community, blending warmth, calm, and vitality. These tones reflect the emotional depth of caregiving while offering a sense of hope and grounding.
The logo design was developed in close collaboration with the ODJJ Project Advisory Committee, whose members represent the diverse communities the journal has been adapted and trialed with and for, this includes caregivers, care providers and community leaders in long-term care homes, adult day programs and First Nations and South Asian communities. Their input helped shape not only the look and feel of the logo, but ensured that it honors the cultural values, caregiving traditions, and lived experiences of those the journal is meant to support.
This collaborative process reflects the spirit of the ODJJ itself: grounded in shared wisdom, informed by many voices, and guided by respect for different ways of knowing and caring.
Together, the elements of the ODJJ logo tell a story—not just of dementia care, but of the relationships and resilience that make the journey meaningful.
